Buttermilk White Cake

Information to know before baking:

* Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit

*  Makes  three 8 inch pans

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup vegetable shortening
  • 2 1/4 cups sugar
  • 8 egg whites
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda dissolved in 2 tablespoons warm water
Directions:

1.Into a medium bowl, sift together the flour, salt, and cream of tartar.

2.In a mixing bowl, mix together shortening and sugar.

3. Add egg whites, unbeaten, alternately with sifted flour, salt and cream of tartar which have been sifted together, beating well.

 
4. Add buttermilk all at once and then add vanilla; beat until well blended and smooth

5.  Add baking  soda and water combination; blend until light and fluffy.

6.. Pour into 3 greased and floured 8-inch cake pans.


7. Bake in 350° oven 20 to 25 minutes.
